Lopez: Live, Learn and Love

Have you ever heard anything about Lopez? If not, come with me and lets discover the wonders of my beautiful town! Live… Learn… Love… Welcome to Lopez, Quezon!

Lopez is a first class municipality in the fourth district of Quezon and one of the largest municipalities in the province. It is 216 kilometers away from Manila and it composed of 95 barangays. Seven of the barangays are urbanized while the rest is not.

Brief Recap

This town is not originally called Lopez. Its original name was Barrio Talolong which is derived from the name of the sturdy trees abundant in the place called “Talolong” or “Balikbikan” as its National name. The current name of the town came from the first Capitan and founder of Talolong which is Don Mateo Lopez who sacrificed a lot for the separation of Talolong to the town of Gumaca.

Lopez, like other towns surpassed the challenges and threats of the foreign invaders especially the Japanese. Lopez was not exempted from the atrocities of Japanese, more so because it become the seat of guerilla activities. Under the command of Gen. Gaudencio V. Vera is the Vera’s Tayabas Guerilla played a big role in harassing the Japanese Imperial Army.

People

Lopezenos are very hospitable, free-spirited people who are God-Fearing, peace- loving and law-abiding. We are always open and ready to help when needed. The population of Lopez is 86,660 according to the 2007 Census of Population conducted by the National Statistics Office and has a density of 2.20 person per hectare.

Education

This municipality was considered as one the educational hub of the fourth district of Quezon. Lopez has two state universities, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Philippine Normal University. Other colleges are Quezon Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Center, Mission Care International Caregiver School, Master Skills Development Center, and Aceba Systems Technology Institute. Lopez has 18 secondary schools and 68 elementary schools.

Tourism is one of the main focus of the Local Government of Lopez. Each place, especially sites which is involved in the Lopez history was preserved. These are some of the beautiful sites we can visit in my town:
